1.1 TB of unreleased projects and games leaked

At the start of last weekend, a group of hackers posted stolen internal documents from Disney online. These included emails and chats as well as materials on previously unknown projects. The company has now confirmed the incident. Disney

Huge leak appears on the darknet

The data packet that first appeared in a forum on the Darknet last Friday is 1.1 terabytes in size. The accompanying post states: “Yesterday we leaked a small database. Now we’re bringing out the big guns. […] Have fun browsing. There is really a lot in there.” According to the hackers, they gained access to Disney’s internal Slack messenger through an employee. According to a post on X by Pirate_Nation the employee downloaded a file from the website Modland. The hackers could then have penetrated the messenger service using session hijacking and the corresponding cookies. This is suggested by an email from the attackers, which CNN is now available.

Leaks about unpublished projects

The data package contains all messages and files from allegedly almost 10,000 Slack channels. The exact content of the leak is not yet known. However, according to Eurogamer previously unpublished collaboration projects between Disney and game publisher Epic Games for its game Fortnite are also expected to be included. Details about an unpublished game from the Alien universe, which is said to be the successor to Aliens Fireteam Elite, released in 2021, have also apparently already been found.

Hackers believe they are in the right

Members of the hacker group NullBulge, who call themselves hacktivists, are responsible for the attack. They say they are fighting for the rights of artists and for their fair pay, especially in the age of artificial intelligence. “Disney was our target because of the way the company handles artist contracts, its approach to AI and its pretty blatant disregard for the consumer,” said NullBulge. Disney has since confirmed the leak. According to a spokesperson, the company is currently launching an investigation into the incident.
