5G annual revenue to hit $300 billion by 2025—Research

Researchers believe that next generation 5G network services will hit $300 billion a year by 2025.

The first commercial 5G services are currently live in some parts of the United States which offers Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband in various cities, many hoping to launch 5G services in 2019 with hopes to see the first 5G enabled smartphones to be launched in 2019.

According to Juniper Research, the 5G revenues would be around $984 million next year with an annual increase rate of 160 percent reaching $300 billion in the next 5 to 6 years.

The research also indicates that by the time 2025, 5G services will only account for 14% of the total internet connections yet pulling 38 percent of all billed revenues.

One of the major reasons why 5G services will pull out more revenues is the technology would significantly reduce the per bit cost, it will also enable new services such as enhanced mobile broadband, connected cars, and industrial applications.

Juniper also suggests operators to continue to invest in their core networks if they wish to achieve these savings—especially related to virtualization. It will provide more control over functions that could be moved around their network close to customers, enabling more rapid provision of new services and capitalizing on changing customer demands.

According to the research, the 5G networks would be able to generate 955 exabytes per annum by 2025.

Sam Baker one of the co-authors of the report said, “After the initial launch, 5G home broadband services would be one of the biggest drivers of growth of cellular traffic.” He further said,

An Average home 5G broadband connection will generate more than 430GB of data per month by 2025.

It is also estimated that 5G Research and Development spending will touch $60 billion by the end of the year 2019, the half of the amount will be spent on conducting trials for 5G launch in 2019.

Network equipment manufacturers would also see a great boost in their business due to increasing demand for 5G networks around the world after 2019.
