65% of Global Population to have 5G Coverage by 2025

The latest installment of the Ericsson Mobility Report revealed that 65% of the global population would have 5G coverage by 2025 and networks will handle 45% of the world’s mobile data traffic.

The number of 5G subscribers is expected to reach 2.6 billion by 2025. This will be fueled by the fast-developing ecosystem and extremely strong growth momentum.

By 2025, the average mobile data consumption is expected to go up to 24GB from 7.2GB per smartphone. It will allow for a 30-minute HD video to be streamed per day including a six-minute virtual reality clip.

Many leading telecommunication companies launched their 5G networks this year belonging from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Following the launch of 5G in April, the service providers in South Korea have received more than three million subscriptions.

China launched its 5G network in late-October. It is expected that by this year’s end it will have 13 million 5G subscriptions.

It is predicted that people will adopt 5G technology faster than that of LTE. It is expected that North America will witness the highest growth rate followed by NorthEast Asia and Europe.

It was also estimated in the report that the number of Internet of Things (IoT) connections will climb to 5 billion in 2025 from 1.3 billion by end-2019.
