70 Pro-Bloomberg Twitter Accounts Suspended

70 accounts have been suspended by Twitter for spam-like posts in which the Democratic presidential Michael Bloomberg was being supported. Hundreds of people were hired for his campaign to promote him on social media.

A spokesperson said, “We have taken enforcement action on a group of accounts for violating our rules against platform manipulation and spam.”

A few of these accounts have been banned while others will be reauthorized if the real users behind those accounts verify that it is their account.

It was revealed by the Wall Street Journal that the billionaire former New York mayor hired around 500 people in California at $2,500 per month to continuously post messages and show support to him on social media.

Paying people from promotion on social media blurs the line between political advertisement and promotion using ordinary activists on social media networks.

Twitter does not allow sending of similar tweets from multiple accounts as these are often spam messages and “coordinating with or compensating others to engage in artificial engagement or amplification.” Also Twitter bans the creation of  “fake” engagement with “duplicative” content.

Russia-backed accounts triggered these policies when they tried to implement the outcome of the US presidential race in 2016.

Bloomberg has broken the record for campaign advertising using $364.3 million and counting.

The candidate mocked Donald Trump and in one of the slogan said,  “Donald Trump lost the popular vote.”

While another said, “Donald Trump’s wall fell over.”
