The fact that Microsoft plans to end support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) and the Amazon AppStore in Windows 11 by March 2025 is not new. This announcement has so far caused little reaction in the user community – but now that has changed and people are insisting on continuing the popular feature. WSA allows Windows 11 users to run Android apps directly on their PCs.
Many appreciate this feature as it provides access to mobile applications not otherwise available for Windows. Developers and business users in particular benefit from the ability to conveniently test and use Android apps without additional hardware.

There is now reporting on a Feedback Hub article entitled “Please do not discontinue the Windows subsystem for Android 2025!”, which has received almost 700 upvotes and numerous comments. Users argue that WSA has become an indispensable tool and are calling on Microsoft to at least keep Android emulation, even if the Amazon AppStore is discontinued. Especially since it looks like this so far, that the Windows subsystem for Android will continue in China anyway.

Developers emphasize the importance of WSA in the app development process. They appreciate the ability to quickly and easily create and test Android apps on Windows 11. A developer explains: “When building an Android app, it is important to see it in a production environment and WSA provided this option by allowing launching a developed APK for UAT/beta testing.”
Uncertain future for WSA
Despite community demands, the prospects for WSA’s continuation remain uncertain. Another reason for WSA’s failure, according to insider information, was the lack of support from Google. According to Clinick, when the search engine giant refused to participate in the WSA project, the project was “in the coffin.” Microsoft has not yet made an official statement on the users’ demands.
It remains to be seen whether the company will respond to the community’s demands and reconsider its decision. That’s not entirely unthinkable.
