Steam event for RTS fans starts
Every year there are numerous sales and events on Steam. The RTS festival started today at 7 p.m. German time on the Valve platform. In addition to the chance to get hold of a number of games at a discount, players can also try out upcoming strategy titles as part of the event, which runs until January 27th. One of the games that has attracted the most attention so far is Tempest Rising.
C&C clone with a modern look
It’s no secret that the developers at Studio Slipgate Ironworks were inspired by Command & Conquer and other classics of the real-time strategy genre of the 1990s and 2000s for their game.
In 1997, players fight as one of two factions on an earth contaminated by a nuclear war for scarce resources and try to destroy their opponents in demanding tactical battles. As one of the two parties, the GDF (Global Defense Force) is strongly reminiscent of the GDI (Global Defense Initiative) from C&C from almost 30 years ago. They also want to appeal to Command & Conquer fans when it comes to music. The same composer, Frank Klepacki, who was also responsible for the sounds of the original C&C, contributes the soundtrack to the game.
Multiplayer and classic campaign
The Tempest Rising demo currently available on Steam lets players compete against each other in multiplayer. It will be available until February 3rd and will give fans a foretaste of the strategy title. It should then be available from April 24, 2025. The game can already be pre-ordered for 40 euros.
In addition to the multiplayer, the two campaigns of the two factions will also be playable at the time of release, of which fans were already able to collect impressions as part of a first demo in July 2024. As usual with Command & Conquer, there will be cutscenes between the individual missions that prepare players for the upcoming tasks on the battlefield. As the development progresses, the developers also want to add a third faction to the game.
