Nvidia’s Most Expensive GPUs Can’t Handle “Hell Is Us” Intro

The most expensive graphics cards from Nvidia have problems with the new Unreal Engine 5-game “Hell is Us”. RTX 40 and 50 owners have to reduce graphics quality for the demo and deactivate DLSS in order to be able to play at all.

When expensive graphics cards fail

Anyone who spends a lot of money on a high-end graphics card rightly expects current quality games to run smoothly. But of all people, of all things, Nvidia’s latest and most expensive GeForce models in the RTX 40- and 50 series is now an unusual problem: They fall regularly from the upcoming Action Adventure “Hell Is Us”. The developer Rogue Factor already had to publish a workaround that leaves many players at a loss.

The temporary solution sounds paradoxical: Owners of the high-end GPUs should download all graphics settings for the start of the game and deactivate all upscaling technologies such as DLSS, FSR and Xess. Only when the intro sequence is over and the character can be controlled can the settings be screwed up again. A curious situation when you consider that these graphics cards were actually designed for precisely such demanding titles.

Extreme system requirements

As on the Steam page The development team is already working intensively on a permanent solution to the problem. The game based on the Unreal Engine has the reputation of a hardware monster anyway. For 4K resolution at modest 30 FPS, the developer recommends nothing less than a Geforce RTX 4090 with activated upscaling.

The high system requirements are also evident in the official recommendations. At least one NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti with eleven gigabyte VRAM or an AMD RX 6750 XT with twelve gigabyte vram is necessary to enjoy the game. In addition, there are 32 GB of system work memory as recommended requirements. This means that “Hell is Us” joins the growing list of games that no longer run optimally with eight GB VRAM graphics cards.

The game comes from the Canadian studio Rogue Factor, which was already known by title like “Mordheim: City of the Damned” and “Necromunda: Underhive Wars”. “Hell is us” is said to present a dark, post -apocalyptic world in which players navigate as a character Rémi through a landscape populated by mysterious creatures. The Unreal Engine 5 enables impressive visual effects, but also demands corresponding hardware resources.

Nvidia fights with driver problems

The problems are reminiscent of similar difficulties that Nvidia users have had in the past few months with drivers updates and game compatibility. Recently, the developers of “Inzoi” and “The First Berserker: Khazan” Nvidia users to install older drivers to fix performance problems. For players, it remains to be hoped that developer Rogue Factor will get the problem under control until the official release of Hell is Us on September 4, 2025.

The game promises to become an exciting action adventure in a semi-open world that will appear on PC and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Until then, owners of the latest Nvidia GPUs have to be content or bad with reduced graphics settings-at least for the intro sequence.
