Emulator on Steam transforms NES games into real 3D worlds

After five years of early access, the 3DSen emulator finally reached version 1.0. The unique tool transforms classic NES titles into three-dimensional games and even offers VR support. Retro fans can now experience over 100 classics.

New dimension for old pixel classics

Real manual work

In contrast to conventional emulators, 3Dsen is not a simple filter application. Instead, level structures, characters and environments are completely reproduced. The result is interactive 3D dioramas with a real depth that remain loyal to the original, but at the same time convey a completely new feeling. The conversion takes place in real time and the game mechanics are fully preserved.

According to the Steam page of 3dsen Currently over 100 NES titles are supported, including cult classics such as Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Contra, Castlevania and Mega Man. Each game receives an individually adapted 3D profile that was created by the developer by meticulous manual work. With the additional tool “3Dsenmaker”, users can even create their own 3D profiles for their favorite games and share them with the community.

Modern features for classic games

In addition to 3D conversion, the 3DSen emulator offers numerous modern comfort functions. Players can turn the camera freely and zoom in, which opens up completely new perspectives on well -known game worlds. Real-time light and shadow ensure additional visual depth. Practical functions such as quick storage, rewinding and pre-coiling make the gaming experience much more pleasant than on the original hardware.

The VR support, which in the VR version of 3Dsen is included. Here, players with VR glasses such as META Quest 3 can immerse themselves in the three-dimensional NES worlds. In games like “Duck Hunt” or “Punch-out !!” are even supported, which ensures an immersive experience.

Ten years in development

The development of 3dsen is a story of perseverance and vision. For over ten years, Tran Vu Truc has worked as a solo developer on his idea to bring classic 8-bit games into the third dimension. What started as an ambitious experiment has developed into a sophisticated product that causes enthusiasm for retro fans. If you want to try 3dsen, you can do that on Steam. By June 26, 2025, there will be both the standard version and the VR version with a 40 percent discount at a price of 7.79 euros or 14.39 euros.

As with all emulators, however, players must provide their own ROMs, since they are not included in the scope of delivery for legal reasons. The emulator supports the common NES-ROM formats and offers an intuitive user interface for charging and managing the games.
