The wait has an end: Cyberpunk 2077 finally appears for Mac users. The Ultimate Edition with all updates and the Phantom Liberty expansion will be on Apple computer on July 17th. What makes porting special and which hardware you need.
Cyberpunk 2077 appears for Apple computers
After a long waiting time, Mac owners can look forward to a highlight: Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition will be released on July 17, 2025 for MacOS. The publication was confirmed by CD Projekt Red and includes both the main game and the Phantom Liberty expansion with Idris Elba as Solomon Reed. Originally announced for early 2025, the title now comes to the Mac with a slight delay.
The dystopian role-playing game, which initially struggled with technical problems in 2020, has developed into one of the most ambitious open world games through numerous updates. The story of mercenary V in the futuristic metropolis Night City offers over 100 hours of playing time and was rated significantly more positively by critics after the updates.
Technical requirements and optimizations
The role-playing game will be available for all Apple Silicon-Macs-from the first M1 chip to the current M4. However, there is an important restriction: You need at least 16 GB RAM, which excludes owners of entry models with eight GB of RAM. CD Projekt Red has developed special “for this Mac” graphics presets that have been individually optimized for each Apple Silicon model.
The MAC version uses technologies such as AMDS FSR for upscaling and frame generation as well as Apple’s metalfx-upscaling. With a later update, the metal 4 functions such as Metal FX Frame Interpolation and Metalfx Denoising announced at WWDC 2025 are integrated. The technologies should enable up to 120 FPS at ultra settings on powerful Macs.
Apple-specific features in detail
The developers have implemented numerous Apple-specific functions. If you have Airpods, you can enjoy spatial audio with head tracking – a technology that spatially positions sound effects and adapts to head movements. There are dynamic HDR for owners of Apple XDR displays, and both Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are fully supported.
Another detail: The MAC version of Cyberpunk 2077 supports Apple’s Game Controller-Framework, which also means that MFI-certified controllers from third-party providers work. In addition, the user interface for macOS-typical input methods such as multi-touch gestures was optimized.
Availability and cross progression
The Ultimate Edition will be available via the Mac App Store, Steam, Gog.com and the Epic Games Store. Particularly gratifying: If you already have the game on another platform, you can play it on the Mac without any additional costs. In addition, the game supports cross -platform plays so that you can continue your progress from other systems seamlessly on the Mac. The pricing is based on the PC version: the Ultimate Edition regularly costs around 60 euros and, in addition to the main game, also contains the Phantom Liberty expansion, which usually costs 30 euros separately.
For owners of the standard edition on other platforms, an upgrade to the Ultimate Edition is possible. The MAC version of Cyberpunk 2077 also contains all previous updates, including the recently published patch 2.3, which offers new functions for photo mode, additional vehicles and various gameplay adjustments. In addition, the performance benchmark of the PC version is included, with which users can test their hardware performance.
Milestone for Mac-Gaming
With cyberpunk 2077, the Mac platform gets another top-class title. The game is part of a growing list of AAA titles that have been optimized for Apple Silicon, including Assassins Creed Shadows, Death Stranding, Control, several resident Evil titles as well as smaller games such as Neva and Stray.
Historically, this publication marks a turning point: a few years ago, Macs were considered unsuitable for demanding games. With the introduction of the Apple Silicon chips and the improved metal API, the sheet has turned. Developers such as CD Projekt Red are now investing considerable resources in Mac portions.
