Qualcomm’s next top smartphone CPU cracks 4.7 GHz

Qualcomm wants to set standards with its new top SoC for smartphones on the CPU when it comes to the clock rates of mobile processors. The two variants of the “Snapdragon 8 Elite 2” are said to leave the 4-gigahertz brand far behind.

Chinese sources want to have learned data

According to the two Chinese leaves Digital Chat Station and ICuniere wants to target Qualcomm in the processor for the next generation of high-end smartphones a maximum clock rate of the CPU of up to 4.74 gigahertz. This puts a whole shovel on it compared to the current Snapdragon 8 Elite with its maximum 4.43 GHz. Specifically, Qualcomm should plan two standard variants of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which is developed under the internal model number SM8850. According to the information, the “normal” version should work with a sporty 4.6 Gigahertz, while the somewhat faster variant with the addition “for Galaxy” is also planned.

Samsung gets faster version again

The special edition, which should initially be used exclusively in Samsung smartphones of the S26 series, is said to run with up to 4.74 gigahertz. The graphics unit of Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 should also reach up to 1.2 gigahertz, with the internal name of the GPU Adreno 840, it is said. In the CPU of the SM8850, Qualcomm relies on its adapted “Oryon” cores, which should find their way into a new generation. There are supposedly two particularly fast cores plan, while six more corses are also intended that cannot run as fast.

The new top chip of the US chip giant is again manufactured at the Taiwanese order producer TSMC in its so-called “N3P” node with a structural width of three nanometers. In addition to Samsung, most other smartphone manufacturers should also use the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, although so far it is still open whether the new high-end processor is actually called that. The performance is probably carried out in the course of the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, which takes place in Hawaii from September 23 to 25, 2025.
