One UI 8.5 Beta: Samsung now also delivers AI update for the Galaxy S24

This is good news for Galaxy S24 series owners who haven’t upgraded to a Galaxy S26. With the upcoming software update to One UI 8.5, which is based on Android 16, Samsung is integrating four central AI functions into the previous models.
AI update for the Galaxy S24
Distribution of the final One UI 8.5 version is scheduled to start worldwide in May 2026, after South Korean users should receive the update package at the end of April. How Sam Mobile reported, the information comes from an internal test version with the firmware name S928BXXU5DZD9. Samsung has been testing the new user interface since December 2025. While the Galaxy S25 models have already gone through several beta versions, the S24 hardware now also benefits from the optimization. Bugs such as high battery consumption have been fixed in advance.
At the heart of the update are four tools that are intended to make everyday life easier and improve media editing:
- Advanced Audio Eraser: Reduces annoying background noise in apps like YouTube.
- Call Screening: A local AI answers calls and creates a text transcription.
- Creative Studio: Generates drawings from text input.
- Photo Assist: Allows you to insert objects into images using text commands.

Gradual distribution planned
According to Sam Mobile, one advantage of the update is the extended service life of the smartphones. Users receive the latest software functions without having to invest in new hardware. This is also a contribution to reducing electronic waste. However, there are technical limitations to its use: The Creative Studio application requires an input pen and can therefore only be used on the Ultra model with an integrated S Pen. In addition, the local processing of voice data during call screening could put a slightly greater strain on the processor of older devices. However, the built-in chip Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers enough performance reserves.
Anyone in the beta program will receive the stable version as an automatic update. In addition to classic smartphones, the manufacturer’s foldable devices will also be supplied in the future. We had already published the devices that are currently included in the beta in December. Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024 and announced a seven-year update guarantee. The devices not only receive regular security patches, but also expanded functionality. The Galaxy S24 Ultra in particular was a bestseller and held top positions in global sales statistics for months.
