US government should join AI companies to keep citizens quiet
The US government apparently wants to require the large operators of AI services to give up company shares. Instead of purchasing the shares on the stock exchange, for example, the companies should voluntarily hand over their shares to the US government, it is said.
State involvement should curb resistance to AI
Leading representatives of the current US government have held preparatory discussions with a number of US AI providers about selling shares in the companies to the state. The aim of the campaign is to curb the objections of the country’s citizens against the AI data centers that are being built in many places with drastic consequences for the population. At least according to the current concept, the companies should voluntarily give up their shares to the US government, although it is unclear how much money will flow. If the AI companies make profits in the future, it should also be considered that part of the income should be distributed to the population. Such a dividend payment should then be made to all US households, according to the portal NOTUSwhich first reported the plans.
OpenAI boss is peddling the idea
The idea behind government participation in US AI companies should not come from the government itself. Instead, OpenAI boss Sam Altman brought relevant ideas to the current US President at the beginning of 2025, it is said. In recent weeks, Altman has again held relevant discussions with senior representatives of the Trump administration. This is supposedly intended to distribute the “economic benefits of AI” to the public, according to the report. Of course, Altman has one thing in mind with his plans: to reduce the ever-increasing resistance to the rampant growth of the AI infrastructure in the USA. Many US citizens are already suffering from the growing number of data centers, be it due to the facilities’ enormous water requirements, exhaust and noise emissions or rising electricity costs.
The lobbying work by Altman and other AI CEOs is primarily based on preparations for possible IPOs. It was only on Monday that Anthropic, one of the largest providers, submitted the documents for an IPO to the relevant authorities. OpenAI itself is also said to have corresponding plans. The US government also wants to acquire more stakes in technology companies in other areas. A few months ago, shares in the US chip giant Intel were acquired for around $10 billion. In May it was announced that the US government wanted to acquire shares in companies in the field of quantum computing for two billion dollars.
