Marvel: Ryan Gosling introduced as Ghost Rider, new Black Panther
Marvel relies on well-known brands in the film universe, but deliberately swaps out the faces under the masks. Ryan Gosling succeeds Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider and David Jonsson plays the role of T’Challa’s son in Black Panther 3.
Marvel’s MCU plans until 2028
At San Diego Comic-Con, which took place last weekend, Marvel gave new insights into the future of its film universe. The focus of the presentation was the announcements of two new projects: a new edition of Ghost Rider with Ryan Gosling in the lead role and the sequel Black Panther 3.
Both films are scheduled to be released in cinemas worldwide in 2028. Ryan Gosling takes on the role of supernatural motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who sells his soul. The Canadian actor succeeds Nicolas Cage, who has already portrayed the character in two films. The new Ghost Rider film will be directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and Jonathan Tropper will write the screenplay. The trio most recently worked together on the science fiction film Star Wars: Starfighter, which is scheduled for May 2027.

With the new commitments, Marvel is tying well-known names to the franchise. Ryan Gosling recently recorded worldwide box office success of over 684 million dollars (around 601 million euros) with the novel adaptation Project Hail Mary. According to reports, due to his commitment to Ghost Rider, the actor had to cancel another film project. The film rights for Ghost Rider were owned by Sony for a long time, but were reverted to Marvel Studios.
New Black Panther for 2028
As Polygon reported, director Ryan Coogler also officially confirmed work on Black Panther 3 during the event. British actor David Jonsson will play the son of T’Challa and thus take on the role of the new Black Panther. The theatrical release is scheduled for December 15, 2028.

In addition to the two films, there were further details about Avengers: Doomsday at the trade fair. British actress Hayley Atwell will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, in her established role as Peggy Carter. Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds also appeared in his costume from the Deadpool films, suggesting a possible appearance.
In order to bridge the waiting time for the upcoming major projects, the studio is bringing an extended version of Avengers: Endgame to cinemas in September 2026. The revival is set to include an exclusive preview of Avengers: Doomsday.
