Galaxy S27 Pro & S27 Ultra: Samsung plans up to 15% larger batteries

Samsung apparently wants to equip its next high-end smartphones in the classic bar-style form factor with larger batteries. A report now provides initial information about the power storage in the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Battery size of the two top models known?

After several years in which Samsung seemed to lose touch with its high-end smartphones when it came to battery capacity, they apparently finally want to offer larger capacities with the Galaxy S27 series. This is suggested by a report from the Netherlands, which is based on information from import-export databases. Like the blog GalaxyClub reported, information on the capacity of the batteries of the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra has recently been seen in relevant databases. These are the so-called “rated” values, i.e. the minimum value of the batteries manufactured according to Samsung’s specifications. Usually the manufacturer specifies a slightly higher so-called “typical” capacity value for marketing purposes.

Specifically, the colleagues mention a battery capacity of 5087 mAh (rated) for the new Pro model, which is located below the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which will ultimately probably be marketed as a 5200 mAh battery (typical). The larger Ultra model is said to have a battery capacity of 5534 mAh (rated), which Samsung will then market as a 5700 mAh battery (typical). This would make the battery of the Ultra version around 15 percent larger.

Silicon carbon batteries for more capacity?

How Samsung achieves the larger battery capacity is of course currently the subject of speculation. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have just begun to use silicon-carbon batteries, which enable higher capacity with the same or smaller dimensions thanks to a higher energy density. It would be conceivable that Samsung would take a similar approach with the Galaxy S27 series. However, as the capacity increases, the lifespan of the batteries in the new Galaxy Z models decreases, as the EU EPREL label only specifies this as 1200 charging cycles.

The previous models had at least 2000 charging cycles. Theoretically, it takes less time for the battery capacity to fall below 80 percent of its original value. The data mentioned are still values ​​from “samples”, i.e. presumably batteries from pre-series production, as Samsung is currently in the device verification testing stage of the Galaxy S27 series. The capacities may well change before the market launch in January or February 2027.
