A Brampton Amazon facility is asked to close due to a rise in COVID-19 cases

Amazon in Canada is asked to temporarily close one of its fulfillment centers for two weeks due to a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases at the center.

Amazon in Canada is asked to temporarily close one of its fulfillment centers for two weeks due to a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases at the center.

According to an investigation, where the rate was dropping in the region, the facility’s cases were increasing significantly.

Dr. Lawrence C. Loh, the concerned medical officer for the Peel region said the temporary closure was necessary to help stop the spread of the virus:

This Amazon facility is in a vulnerable community and employs thousands of people. Immediate action must be taken to protect these essential workers and the community where they live,

However, the company disagreed with the decision and said to go for an appeal. Employees at the facility would be required to self-isolate until March 27th under the order.

Back in March 2020, Kentucky’s governor ordered the warehouse in the state to close following an outbreak, and one was closed in New Jersey back in December.

Amazon continued its operations in most of its warehouses amid COVID-19. More than 19,000 of its workers had tested positive for the virus as of October.
