Amazon Haul Appears In response to Temu & Shein

Amazon has now revealed an answer to the Chinese cheap shopping portals Temu and Shein. In the future, “Amazon Haul” will place even greater emphasis on selling supposedly cheap products with shipping directly from China.

Amazon delivers cheap goods from China directly from the source

The world’s largest online retailer Amazon is launching “Haul”, its own shopping portal for cheap products from China. In doing so, the group is reacting to the growing strength of competitors such as Temu, who are trying to sell products shipped directly from China to Western customers with gigantic advertising expenditure.

Essentially, Amazon Haul is a kind of extra store that aims to sell various electronics, clothing, household products and other products with prices less than $20. Haul is initially only accessible via Amazon’s apps and offers “crazy low prices,” it says.

Amazon Haul initially as a beta only in the USA

Amazon is marketing all sorts of cheap products on its new portal, but is currently only operating the new cheap shop in the USA. Customers there do not have to pay shipping costs for orders worth more than 25 dollars; all orders with a lower purchase value incur a shipping fee of just under four dollars. The online retail giant says it also checks the products sold through Amazon Haul for safety and authenticity in order to avoid dangerous or counterfeit goods being sold.

When buying cheap goods via Amazon Haul, customers have to expect longer delivery times, it is said. In most cases, the products are delivered in less than two weeks, says Amazon. Of course, Amazon uses the same model for Haul that Temu and Shein work with. So the cheap goods are sold directly from the factory in China, without middlemen making any money.

In order to reduce costs, products with a purchase price of less than three US dollars cannot be returned. It is still unclear whether and when Amazon Haul will take up the fight against Temu, and Shein in Europe under this or another name.
