According to reports, Apple has began Official Production of the M4 MacBook Pro
Recently, Mark Gurman conducted a question and answers session regarding the Apple Car. He disclosed that the chip in the car would have been the same as four M2 Ultra chips put together. During the session, Gurman unveiled that Apple Car had a ‘safetyOS’ system. He mentioned that it was a part of the vehicle’s operating system but didn’t share further details.
Besides this topic, several other topics were briefly discussed by Mark Gurman during the session. He shared that the company has begun the formal development of a new MacBook Pro powered by an M4 chip. No further details about the chip were shared.
In November 2020, Apple debuted its M1 chip for Macs. It was followed by the arrival of the M2 chip in June 2022. Last year, in October, the company announced its M3 chip. From this timeline, a gap of year-and-a-half can be observed between the chips. If things go like previously, then we can expect the chip to arrive in H1 2025. However, it might debut y the end of this year.
In October 2023, the MacBook pro series was updated with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips. As part of this change, the company introduced a new base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 chip in place of the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Besides this, the company upgraded the iMac and MacBook Air with the M3 chip. Right now, the only M2 powered devices include the Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro.
TSMC, the chip manufacturing partner of Apple, is rumored to begin the mass production of chips based on 2nm process at some point next year. So, the upcoming M4 chips will be based on 3nm process just like the M3 chips. For better performance and power efficiency, the M4 chip will probably be produced using an upgraded version of TSMC’s 3nm technology.
The enhanced Neural Engine of the M4 processor would have “significantly” more cores for artificial intelligence activities, according to a story published in Taiwan’s Economic Daily News last month. Other than that, no precise information regarding the chip is currently known.
