According to reports, Samsung’s AI functions on the Galaxy S24 in China switch from Google to Baidu

Samsung Galaxy S24 is not going to China with Google’s Gemini AI. According to a Friday CNBC report, the AI-driven features of the flagship phone in China are powered by Baidu’s Ernie chatbot. Ernie apparently got consent from the Chinese government before arriving in August of last year.

In a joint statement, Baidu and Samsung told CNBC that the updated Samsung Note Assistant, “now featuring Ernie’s understanding and generation capabilities, can translate content and also summarize lengthy content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the click of a button, streamlining the organization of extensive text.“

Many of the Google-powered features that Samsung unveiled last week at its launch event in San Jose, California, are promoted in the Chinese version of their website for the Galaxy S24 series. These consist of a photo aid, real-time phone translation, transcribing assistance, and a form of Circle to Search. There are no references to Google, which has restricted operations in China, on the product pages for the Galaxy S24.

According to a recent report, Apple overtook Samsung as the world leader in smartphone shipments, a position it held for 14 years. Furthermore, according to data released by IDC this week, the iPhone manufacturer may have taken the top spot in the Chinese market for the first time in 2023 with a 17.3% market share. Samsung was not included in the top five. The regular, Plus, and Ultra models of the Galaxy S24 series have all been tested by Engadget. The 2024 flagship model from Samsung will launch in US on January 31^st.
