Adobe starts free beta for everyone

Adobe finally brings Photoshop to Android smartphones: The beta version of the popular image editing software is now available and offers all premium functions free of charge during the test phase-including AI-based tools.

Adobe Adobe has published the long-awaited beta version of his Photoshop app for Android smartphones. After the iPhone version was released in February of this year, Android users can now also access the app and its image editing tools. Particularly gratifying: During the beta phase, all premium functions are available free of charge-a temporary offer for interested parties.

The new app is aimed at both beginners and experienced Photoshop users and runs on devices with Android 11 or higher. However, a smartphone with at least six GB RAM is a prerequisite, with Adobe recommending eight GB for optimal performance or more. The software brings many of the well-known desktop functions to the smartphone, but was specially optimized for mobile use.

Mobile image processing with “desktop quality”

The mobile app contains many of the machining tools for which Photoshop is known, such as levels, masks and selection tools. In addition, it offers optimized tools especially for smartphones. Particularly noteworthy is the exclusive “TAP Select” function, which enables you to select, remove, change or replace with a simple type.

Other important tools are the “Spot Healing Brush” for the quick removal of flaws and disorders as well as “Object Select” and “Magic Wand” for precise options. With “Remove” and “Clone Stamp”, images can be refined and undesirable objects can be removed. Adobe’s AI-supported tool “Generative Fill” is also available, with which elements can be added or transformed in a picture using “Text-to-Image” AI.

Entry -friendly with tutorials

Adobe makes it easy for newcomers to offer tutorials directly in the app. These instructions show how to work with levels and selection tools and use the AI tools such as generative Fill. In addition, users can contact other users via the community forum to get advice or receive feedback. The app is part of Adobe’s strategy to make Photoshop accessible to a wider target group.

Adobe emphasizes that the mobile app has the service for those who prefer to work on their smartphones. At the same time, she allows experienced users to continue working on their projects on the go. The first independent practical tests will show whether this works in full.

Costs after the beta phase

All functions can be used free of charge during the beta phase, but the generous regulation will not be permanent. After the beta phase, a subscription will be required for the use of all tools that costs around 7.50 euros per month or 89 euros per year.

The iPhone version of Photoshop already started with a distinction between free and paid functions. Photoshop for iPhone also offers a paid integration with Photoshop on the web. So far it is not known when Adobe will also introduce this function for the Android app.
