With the Galaxy Book Go, Samsung has one of the most affordable notebooks with Windows 10 based on ARM in the pipeline. The simple device with robust housing offers LTE and uses a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm – and that for a price of 449 euros in Europe and starts at $349 in the United States.
Since Samsung did not officially present the Galaxy Book Go at its unpacked event yesterday and has not yet published any official information about it, we are taking over this part and are now introducing the device to you here. Samsung might be out of time to introduce this device directly to you, hence the company has asked bloggers, YouTubers to unveil the product to the users.
Notebooks with ARM processors and Windows are actually only available in the upper price categories for private customers. That changes with the Samsung Galaxy Book Go because the Korean manufacturer is bringing the LTE-capable Snapdragon laptop to the normal mass market. In order for it to work with the low prices, however, you have to accept a few compromises.
The Samsung Galaxy Book Go has a 14-inch IPS display that has a good Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. You will look in vain for a touchscreen as well as high-quality housing. Instead, the device is clearly designed to be offered as cheaply as possible.
This is from 349 dollars in the US (but without LTE) and 449 euros in Europe, the customer gets the Snapdragon 7c under the hood, a 2.5 gigahertz fast octa-core SoC based on a smartphone chip from Qualcomm and with a lean one four gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB of internal flash storage are combined. The latter can easily be expanded using a microSD card.
Whether the variant of the Galaxy Book Go with Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 stands out due to the integrated 5G support, the more powerful processor, and a working memory that has been increased to eight gigabytes. The Galaxy Book Go has otherwise fairly typical equipment, as we know from other budget notebooks. There is a 42.3 watt-hour battery that can be charged with up to 25 watts via the USB Type-C port.
There is also Bluetooth 5.1, ac-WLAN, Miracast, one Type-C, and one USB-A port. The operating system is the ARM edition of Windows 10 in the 64-bit version. On the positive side, Samsung has given the device a fingerprint reader in the power button, with which you can securely login via Windows Hello.
A special feature in this price range and especially with the Windows laptops with ARM CPU is that the Galaxy Book Go is certified according to the US military standard 810G. It should therefore withstand falls from a height of up to 1.20 meters and is equipped with a stable hinge that can be folded out up to 180 degrees. The device is also protected against dust and therefore does not have a fan.
To what extent the Galaxy Book Go ultimately has a chance of success and can offer a usable user experience is of course still open. After all, Samsung is pushing the prices for ARM notebooks with Windows significantly more humane with the device.
