All you need to know about Water Lock on your Samsung Galaxy Watch

Due to the seamless integration of the One UI and One UI Watch interfaces, the Galaxy Watch is the ideal smartwatch for owners of Samsung phones. Most Galaxy phone users have a sense of familiarity when they use a Watch for the first time, but they will also encounter new Watch-specific features they’ve never seen on their smartphones. Among them is Water Lock.

What does a Galaxy Watch’s Water Lock mean?

To start with, it’s important to note that Samsung’s Galaxy Watches are dust and water resistant, having an IP68 rating that allows them to be submerged in waters up to 50 meters without experiencing any damage from the water.

When should you utilize Galaxy Watches’ Water Lock feature?

“No” is the succinct response when asked if Water Lock offers water resistance. From the factory, Galaxy watches are resistant to water. Furthermore, Water Lock has nothing to do with any moving components that increase the Galaxy Watch’s already high water resistance.

Water Lock has two primary purposes. Firstly, Water Lock stops unintentional touchscreen presses while it’s activated. A touchscreen may exhibit strange behavior if it meets water. To avoid that, when swimming with the Galax Watch on your wrist, Water Lock disables touch inputs. Second, when you’re done swimming, Water Lock can assist in removing water from your Galaxy Watch’s tiny openings, like the speaker hole. The Galaxy Watch emits a loud beep to force water out of the speaker hole when you switch off the water lock.

When you go for a swim, you should always have Water Lock enabled on your Galaxy Watch for these two reasons. Although it doesn’t increase water resistance, it shields the Galaxy Watch from unintentional contact and aids in drying it out. The only way to get out of Water Lock mode and use the touchscreen again is to hit and hold the Home button. Open the Settings app on your Galaxy Watch, select “Advanced features,” then hit “Water Lock” to activate the option.
