Amazon Cloud Outage Disrupts A Big Chunk Of Internet

The cloud subsidiary of the online retailer Amazon Web Services (AWS) struggled with outage problems in the past few hours.

Numerous popular websites and services were down on Wednesday evening. The reason was problems with the cloud service provider Amazon Web Services (AWS), as The Verge reports. The North America region was primarily affected, according to the official status dashboard.

AWS is one of the market leaders in corporate web infrastructure, customers include numerous large companies. On Wednesday evening, Adobe1PasswordFlickrPocket, and the Washington Post, among others, reported problems with their services. The biggest problems were resolved on Wednesday morning in Central European Time, but Amazon still reported delays in individual services.

Market leader

AWS is an extremely important business area for Amazon. At the end of 2019, AWS had a global market share of 32.6 percent in cloud computing. The Amazon subsidiary was the market leader ahead of Microsoft with 16.9 percent and Google with 6.9 percent. In the fiscal year 2018, the Amazon subsidiary AWS made a profit of 7.2 billion. That’s about half of the Amazon Group’s total profit.
