Amazon Forms A Team To Fight Counterfeit Crime On The Platform

Amazon focuses even more on the fight against counterfeiting on its own platform. For this purpose, a worldwide operating team has now been founded, which deals exclusively with the prosecution of counterfeiters and everything that goes with it.

Team of former law enforcement officers

The online giant Amazon introduces the new team to fight crime under the official name “Counterfeit Crimes Unit”. Their primary goal is to track down counterfeiters that violate Amazon guidelines and laws. To this end, the unit should not only expose criminal activities but also investigate them personally, forward evidence to criminal justice authorities, and take appropriate legal action.

According to official figures, the counterfeiting crime unit is made up of former U.S. attorneys and investigators and data analysts. Thanks to their experience, fewer counterfeits will make it onto the Amazon website in the future than has previously been the case. Plagiarism is already extremely rare for the company there, but today’s announcement at least gives an idea that certain shortcomings have so far not been dealt with.

A lot of counterfeiting was attempted

Amazon’s information on the measures against counterfeiters in 2019 gives an impression of the extent of the problem: The group claims to have blocked six billion allegedly inadmissible offers and blocked over 2.5 million suspect accounts. All of this before the perpetrators were able to offer a product for sale. For its work, the crime-fighting team works closely with brands and providers as well as law enforcement agencies such as Europol. Counterfeiters should be held responsible through fines, civil litigation, and criminal prosecution.
