Amazon plans more compact Kindle with color display

With the “Kindle Petit Color”, Amazon could shortly present a new e-book reader with color display. The color display is said to have been improved more compact than the well -known Kindle Colorsoft. The first pictures have now appeared on Reddit.
New Amazon Kindle prototype appeared
A Reddit user from Brazil has pictures of a suspected Amazon Kindle prototype published that should be equipped with a color display. According to the display display, the device shown has the name “Kindle Petit Color”, although the name is not yet final. The leak author mentioned that due to conflicts with Amazon with regard to confidentiality clauses and contracts, he prices the information.
Amazon had only launched his first color e reader in October 2024 with the Kindle Colorsoft. The device uses E-link Kaleido-3 technology and cost 290 euros for the launch. However, the Colorsoft model initially fought with quality problems, especially a yellowish strip on the bottom of the screen, which occurred for many users. A cheaper 16 GB version was recently introduced.

Compact design with improved color quality
The new device is intended to offer an improved color display compared to the color soft technology and the possibility of individually adjusting intensity and satiety of individual colors. The size of the display edges correspond to the current entry-level child, whereby the overall device should fail “somewhat smaller” than the current model of the eleventh generation.
The entry -level child of the eleventh generation measures 157.8 x 108.6 x 8.0 millimeters and weighs 158 grams – a more compact model could be particularly attractive for on the go. However, the prototype shown lacks screen lighting, but the end product will have one-as with all current Kindle e-book readers.
“Innovative color functions” for e-reader
The user interface uses the color display of the e-link display comprehensively, whereby users can adapt the colors of the battery, WLAN and shopping car symbols. A special function enables the text of an e-book to be displayed in different colors and change dynamically through four colors while progressing in the book.
These “progressive colors” are intended to offer an additional visual orientation towards reading progress. Such features would be quite innovative in the e-reader area, where most manufacturers have so far rely on classic black and white text display. Even with Amazon’s Colorsoft, the focus is primarily on colored book covers and illustrations, less on colored body text.
Skepticism at experts because of unusual features
Experts are skeptical about some claimed features, especially the supposedly removable framework, which should be available in different colors. Loud Techradar I haven’t tried any e-reader brand beforehand to offer removable frames. This function would mean a significant design change and put additional complexity into the construction. Amazon is also not known to publish new Kindles in a quick episode – there are usually two to three years between the generations.
For example, the eleventh generation Kindle appeared in March 2022, while the predecessor came from 2019. A new model 2025 would be conceivable. The current Kindle Colorsoft models cost between 260 euros (16 GB variant) and 290 euros (32 GB Signature Edition). A cheaper color model would correspond to Amazon’s strategy to make e-reader accessible to a wider audience with color displays. The entry-level child currently costs 109 euros, while the Kindle Paperwhite starts at 170 euros. Rumors speak of a possible publication in November 2025.
