AMD Could Challenge Nvidia With a 32GB RX 9070 XT GPU

The Nvidia RTX 5090 generated a lot of excitement, but things didn’t go as smoothly as many had hoped. Stock shortages plagued retailers for up to four months, and users reported black screen issues affecting their systems. These setbacks have created an opportunity for competitors to step in, and it seems AMD might be gearing up to capitalize on Nvidia’s missteps.

Recent rumors suggest AMD has big plans for the mid-range gaming market, especially as the company reportedly plans to step back from the high-end GPU segment. The upcoming RX 8000 series could be a game-changer for gamers looking for a balance between performance and price.

AMD Reportedly Working on a 32GB GPU

According to a report from NotebookCheck, rumors about AMD’s plans for new GPUs have surfaced on the Chinese forum Chiphell, a consistent source of reliable leaks. A user named zhangzhonghao shared some intriguing details about AMD’s potential release (translation provided):

“We are planning a version with larger video memory. The capacity is not clear yet and is still under discussion, but if it is released, it should also be 32G, and the release date should be this year.”

The post indicates that AMD is working on the Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU, which could feature an impressive 32GB of VRAM. Zhangzhonghao mentioned a planned release in Q1, aligning with AMD CEO Lisa Su’s earlier statement that the 9070 XT would launch in “early March.”

Can AMD Compete With Nvidia?

The RX 9070 XT could be a strong contender if these rumors hold true, especially given Nvidia’s recent setbacks with the RTX 5090. While it’s too early to determine if AMD’s new GPU can outshine Nvidia’s flagship, it gives Team Red a chance to gain traction in the market. However, AMD is not without missteps—leaks of RX 9070 XT renders in a Reddit ad have already raised some eyebrows.

For now, all eyes are on AMD to see if it can turn this rumored release into a real advantage. If the RX 9070 XT delivers on performance and price, it could shake up the mid-range GPU space in a big way.
