AMD CPU recent sales figures unveiled

For a long time, the German online retailer Mindfactory kept the sales figures for the AMD processor secret. But they have now been published for the new year. According to them, the CPU outshines all of the competition.
X3D processor with lightning boot
The fact that AMD would write a success story with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D became apparent just a few hours after the processor’s market launch on November 7, 2024. Within a very short time, the shelves at retailers were empty and the CPU was sold out worldwide. If you didn’t get a copy in time, you were stuck or had to pay the horrendous prices charged by scalpers on eBay, sometimes over 900 euros.
Exactly how many chips have been sold since then was unknown. Until now. The German retailer Mindfactory has now published its sales figures. Although they only provide information about a small portion of the processors sold in Germany, they still provide an impression of how incredibly popular the 9800X3D really is.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D outperforms them all
Since the beginning of November, 8,650 customers have currently ordered one of the AMD CPUs with additional 3D V-Cache on the retailer’s website. At first glance, that doesn’t seem like a particularly high number. However, if you put them in perspective and compare them with the sales figures of the other processors, it becomes clear how incredibly high sales of the 9800X3D are.
A total of just over 5,000 units of all the other Ryzen 9000 CPUs on offer were sold. These include the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 5 9600X. All of Intel’s Core Ultra desktop processors have sold just under 400 units.
Improvement in availability and price expected
However, if you still want to buy a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, you will still have to be patient. Because the processor is still sold out. According to Mindfactory, a new batch should arrive tomorrow, January 3rd. Although the order quantity is limited to a single copy per customer, this delivery will probably sell out quickly.
The CPU currently costs 569 euros at Mindfactory, which is 22 euros more than the current one MSRP from AMD. As AMD itself announced in December, the price is likely to fall again soon. More batches are being delivered every day, so the market situation should soon ease. In addition, even more powerful variants of the CPU series with additional 3D V cache will be presented at CES 2025 on January 6th with the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the 9950X3D. This should also influence the price and availability of the 9800X3D.
