AMD has now officially revealed the launch date and price

AMD has officially announced the price and launch date for the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The new top CPU for gamers offers a higher boost clock than its predecessor and is intended to put further pressure on Intel with 3D V-Cache.
Price and date are fixed
After some rumors and initial benchmark leaks, AMD has now officially announced the launch date and price for its Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The chip manufacturer is ending the speculation of the past few weeks and is positioning the new processor as a direct development of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is already established on the market. The 9850X3D, which was officially presented at CES 2026, will be available in stores worldwide from January 29, 2026.
The recommended retail price for the US market is below official information at $499. This means that the starting price is exactly 20 US dollars higher than the introductory price of the direct predecessor model. It remains to be seen how high AMD sets the RRP for the euro area and thus also for Germany. In this country, the 9800X3D officially started at 529 euros. The price for the 9850X3D should therefore be around 550 euros or slightly higher.
Higher boost clock
The basic basic data of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D remains identical to its predecessor. Eight cores and 16 threads are used. The TDP also remains the same at 120 watts, as does the total cache of 104 MB (96 megabytes of L3 plus eight megabytes of L2 cache). The crucial difference lies in the boost rate. While the 9800X3D reached up to 5.2 GHz, the new 9850X3D clocks at up to 5.6 GHz in Turbo mode. This increase is intended to be particularly effective in scenarios in which the pure clock frequency has a limiting effect and games do not exclusively benefit from the cache size. The base clock, however, remains at 4.7 GHz.
AMD promises high efficiency
As AMD emphasized during the official presentation, the architecture also ensures a certain independence from particularly expensive RAM. Thanks to the second generation of 3D V-Cache technology, extremely fast DDR5 RAM is no longer crucial for gaming performance. According to data published by the manufacturer, the performance difference in over 30 games tested between standard DDR5-4800 and faster DDR5-6000 was less than one percent. At the same time, AMD confidently states that it is on average around 27 percent faster in games than Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K. Although such manufacturer benchmarks should traditionally be viewed with a certain degree of caution, they clearly show that AMD has great confidence in its new gaming CPU.
Question of availability
An interesting detail on the side is the lack of any information about other expected models. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 with double 3D V-cache, which was discussed in the rumor mill, has not yet been officially mentioned. The focus at the moment is obviously entirely on the 8-core model. For users, the primary question now is availability. Since the 9800X3D was difficult to obtain or at excessive prices for a long time, it remains to be seen whether sufficient quantities of the 9850X3D will be available for the launch on January 29th. The small additional charge for more clock speed sounds tempting, provided the CPU is available.
