AMD presents the Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Only ten days ago AMD revealed the date for the release of the first processor with 3D V-Cache of the new generation. On November 7th, 2024 the time has come and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will be on dealer shelves. Today the official presentation of the CPU followed Press release and in a video.

In it, Jack Huynh, AMD’s senior vice president and general manager of computing and graphics, shows off the new chip. Specifications are revealed and benchmark results are shown comparing the 9800X3D with the 7800X3D and with Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K. AMD introduces the Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Specs are confirmed

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D has eight Zen 5 cores with 16 threads and a maximum boost clock of 5.2 GHz. The base clock is 4.7 GHz, which is an increase of 500 MHz compared to the 7800X3D. The TDP is 120 watts. As Huynh emphasizes, the new chip can also be officially overclocked.

The total cache size is 104 MB, of which 64 MB is the 3D V-Cache. The CPU can be used with all AM5 motherboards. AMD has now officially confirmed all the values that have already appeared as part of a dealer leak.

Notable increase in gaming performance

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D also takes a step forward compared to its predecessor in terms of performance in games. On average, the new CPU is eight percent faster than the 7800X3D. For titles like Hogwarts Legacy or Far Cry 6, the difference is even beyond 20 percent.

This means that some of the results are significantly higher than the MSI values. In presentation slides from the motherboard manufacturer with benchmark results that were leaked three weeks ago, the difference in the performance of the 9800X3D and the 7800X3D in Far Cry 6 was only 11 percent. In a direct duel with Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, the 9800X3D is far ahead. AMD’s processor is, on average, a whopping 20 percent faster than Team Blue’s flagship. In games like the brand new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 or Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, the Zen 5’s performance is over 40 percent better.
