AMD is expanding its Ryzen 9000 series with a new 3D V Cache processor for price-conscious gamers. The Ryzen 5 9600x3D is to appear at the end of 2025 and represent an attractive alternative to the more expensive Ryzen 7 9800x3d.
AMD had recently released a new AM4 gaming CPU with the Ryzen 5 5500x3d. However, the chip group will now expand its popular Ryzen 9000 series by another model with 3D V cache. The 9600x3D will be based on the Zen 5 architecture and probably use an eight-core chiplet with two deactivated seeds. The basic clock frequency is likely to be around 3.9 GHz, while the boost clock will probably reach up to 5.4 GHz. The TDP is likely to be near the value of the standard Ryzen 5 9600X and is around 65 watts.
The highlight is of course the cache. Because in addition to 32 MB L3 cache, the CPU will probably offer an additional 64 MB 3D V cache, which leads to a total value of 96 MB. The Ryzen X3D processors are particularly popular with players because their 3D-V cache technology improves gaming performance. Due to the larger L3 cache, the CPU can access game data faster, which leads to higher frame rates and more fluid gameplay. With the Ryzen 5 9600x3D, AMD not only expands its X3D product line, but also creates a new entry point for gamers and PC builders.
According to initial information, the Ryzen 5 9600x3d will initially be launched in finished systems in the second half of 2025, while a broader introduction in retail is expected between the end of the third and early fourth quarter. Although AMD has not yet named AMD, the Ryzen 5 9600x3d will be positioned at the price of the Ryzen 7 9800x3D.
