Android 16: Google plans completely new battery icon

Google plans large design changes for Android. There should also be a clearly revised battery display that allows users to grasp the current state of charge of your smartphone faster. However, the design is not completely new.

New battery symbol for Android 16 unveiled

Google revises the appearance of Android, which is to bring a fresh look for the mobile operating system under the name “Material 3 Expressive”. The first pictures of the completely new Android design are just leaked. Apparently they have been working on the new user interface for three years. Android 16 will probably not be in a new guise at the start, but the version of the mobile operating system planned for the summer of 2025 could also get the more colorful and modern UI at a later date.

A detail that is now leaked through is the redesign of the battery icon, which will be presented horizontally instead of vertically. The rounded corners and the color design should make it easier for users to grasp the battery level of their smartphone at a glance. In addition, the new battery symbol not only shows the state of charge graphically, but also contains a numerical percentage directly in the icon. Depending on the state of charge, the color also changes. While the normal condition remains white, the icon shines green when charging, yellow in the energy saving mode and red (below 20 percent) red.

Additional visual information for the user

Like mystic leaks Telegram, Recently unveiled, additional symbols will provide users more information. When charging, a flash symbol appears next to the display, while a plus sign is displayed in the energy-saving mode. These visual information should increase user -friendliness and provide information about the current status at a glance. The similarity to the iOS battery icon is unmistakable.

Apple has long used a horizontal, color -coded battery display with percentage inside. Nevertheless, there are slight differences. Because with Google’s variant, black text is used on a white background, while Apple practices the opposite.

Part of a larger design offensive

The revision of the battery icon is just an element of the upcoming redesign that Google is planning for Android. “Material 3 expressive” has been the most important visual revision since the introduction of material You with Android 12.

In addition to the battery symbol, other areas of the operating system will also receive a redesign, including the clock app and the quick setting menu. The design language increasingly relies on animations, dynamic elements and context -related color change to make the interaction with the device more intuitive.

Template unclear

The history of the Android battery display goes back to the first version, whereby the icon has only experienced minimal changes over the years. The current switch to a horizontal format is therefore a clear break with the previous design tradition and makes you curious about the other changes that Google is planning.

It is still unclear when exactly the new design elements will be rolled out. Google is expected to announce more details on “Material 3 Expressive” on Google I/O 2025. The new design is already available in the code in the Android 16 Beta 4. However, it has so far been deactivated there by default.
