Elon Musk has announced that the price for autonomous driving – “full self-driving” – will be increased shortly. The software is currently still in the beta test phase, but can already be booked by Tesla drivers. However, from January 17th, the price will increase. And this price increase is just the beginning: Tesla founder Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) feature will cost $ 12,000 instead of $ 10,000 from January 17th.
When the “Full Potential for Autonomous Driving” started as an additional option in the Tesla configurator, interested parties paid $ 1,000. In 2020 alone, there were two price increases – mind you for a feature that is not yet ready for the market and so far only offers a few extras such as autonomous driving on motorways. Musk also said the price will continue to rise as Tesla gets closer to releasing the FSD production code.
When that could happen is still completely unclear, especially since the licensing authorities worldwide have expressed a lot of criticism of the autonomous functions and there are correspondingly high requirements. Tesla is planning a completely autonomous driving function for the city as well.
The price increase applies to buyers in the United States, according to Elon Musk. Musk had already commented on the FSD feature a few months ago that he was currently selling it as a real bargain and that Tesla drivers should strike accordingly.
The value of the finished software exceeds $ 100,000, and that in turn is an increase in value for the vehicle itself. Accordingly, Tesla will also charge more for the finished version than it currently does for the beta.
A few weeks ago, Tesla started a new update of the beta version V11 for the autonomous driving functions.
