Apple released the four iPhone 12 series of mobile phones this year are equipped with A14 Bionic chip, according to a MacRumors report, the A14 chip is the mobile phone industry’s first chip based on the 5nm process.
According to research company TrendForce, Apple plans to use TSMC’s next-generation 5nm+ process on the A15 chip in the iPhone 13 in 2021. According to TSMC’s official website, the 5nm+ process (known as N5P) is a “performance-enhanced version” of its 5nm process and will provide additional power efficiency and performance improvements.
In addition, TrendForce believes that the A16 chip of the Apple iPhone 14 in 2020 will use TSMC’s 4nm or 3nm process, which will further improve performance and power efficiency. It is worth mentioning that according to earlier reports and recently published by Taiwanese media, TSMC has made a major breakthrough in the 2nm process technology, and will conduct small-scale trial production in the second half of 2023. If there is no accident, mass production will be possible in 2024. At the same time, TSMC also said that after 2nm, it will continue to support 1nm very close.
