Apple Foldable To Have Larger Display Than iPhone 16 Pro Max

Rumors about a foldable iPhone persist. New reports from a trusted source suggest a market launch in 2026. The new smartphone could offer a larger display than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. But Apple is facing technical problems.

New impetus for the iPhone series?

Apple fans have been waiting for groundbreaking innovations in the iPhone for years. Now there are increasing signs that the tech giant from Cupertino is not only working on a foldable smartphone, but also has a version in the drawer that is actually ready for the market.

Foldable display larger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max

Industry insiders have long assumed that Apple is developing two different foldable devices. While a model with a huge 19-inch display is more in the direction of a tablet or laptop, the company is apparently focusing more on a foldable iPhone. When unfolded, this should have a larger display than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which at 6.9 inches is already one of the larger smartphones on the market.

Apple has “spent years working on foldable devices and experimenting with different designs.” Wall Street Journal

After initial experiments with an outward-folding display, the company now seems to have decided on an inward-folding design – similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series. At least that’s what it writes Wall Street Journal. This construction has the advantage of being considered significantly more durable.

Technical hurdles delay market launch

According to the report, the development of a foldable iPhone continues to pose significant technical challenges for Apple. The hinge system and the display cover in particular are causing engineers headaches. Apple is known for placing great emphasis on the quality and longevity of its products, which is a real problem with a heavily loaded folding mechanism on the display. This explains why the company has so far acted much more cautiously than some competitors when introducing foldable devices.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is targeting a foldable iPhone launch in 2026. This schedule has often been quoted from other sources. In the meantime, the company is said to first want to introduce a super-thin iPhone Slim.
