Apple Imoroves security and location

Apple is apparently preparing the expected release of a new generation of its AirTags. The small trackers, which have been helping users find lost items since their introduction in April 2021, are expected to receive an update next year.

New AirTags: Apple’s plans for 2025

According to a report by Bloomberg author Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release a new version of its AirTag tracker in mid-2025. The second generation is said to come with improved technology and enhanced safety features, while the design remains largely unchanged.

Although the external appearance is expected to be almost 1:1 similar to the current model, Apple is planning some significant internal improvements. For example, users can look forward to more precise positioning.

Improved technology and range

The next generation of AirTag, known internally under the code name B589, will be equipped with an improved chip. According to Bloomberg’s report, the new AirTag model is already in advanced manufacturing tests. Mark Gurman, therefore, received information from well-informed sources.

It is believed that Apple could use the second-generation ultra-wideband chip that is already used in the iPhone 15 models. This update promises more precise tracking and could significantly increase the range of AirTags. For users, this means more effective use of the “precision search” function over greater distances.

Improved data protection

Apple is said to be placing particular emphasis on improved security features when developing new AirTags. The background is concerns about potential misuse of the trackers for stalking. A key point: The built-in speaker will be more difficult to remove in the new version. This is intended to make it more difficult to deactivate the warning signal and significantly increase protection against unwanted tracking.

The new AirTags could also receive integration with Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
