Yesterday’s Apple keynote hardly left many questions unanswered about the iPhone 12 (Pro), but the availability of the new iPad Air 4 remained unanswered. A well-informed insider assumes that pre-orders for the iPadOS tablet will start this week.
The fourth-generation iPad Air announced for October is still waiting for its official release date, which should be closer than expected. If you trust the predictions of the most well-informed speaker Jon Prosser, Apple could take pre-orders for the 10.9-inch tablet as early as Friday, October 16. The delivery should take place accordingly from October 23rd. The US manufacturer would then set the same dates as those set for the 6.1-inch models of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Visually, the Apple iPad Air (2020) this year is moving closer to the design of the larger Pro versions. The home button is replaced by even, narrower screen frames, while the fingerprint sensor (Touch ID) is placed inside the power switch on the side. The iPad Air 4 will be the first tablet to use the new Apple A14 Bionic chip, which provides a further boost in performance and is also used in the iPhone 12 family. The second-generation Apple Pencil and accessories such as the latest Magic Keyboard are also supported.
Differences in the iPad Pro can be seen, among other things, in the area of cameras, display technologies, and memory configuration. Functions such as Face ID face recognition, ProMotion (120 Hz), 1 TB flash memory, and a dual-camera system including the LiDAR sensor are reserved for the Pro series. However, despite a portfolio update in March, these require another upgrade, as the Apple A14 chip in the iPad Air 4 already outperforms its big brothers in the 11- and 13-inch format in terms of performance.
While the availability of the iPad Air (2020) is still awaiting official confirmation, the prices have been fixed for several weeks. At least 632.60 euros have to be invested in the 10.9-inch tablet. The so-called cellular version with 4G LTE module starts at 769.10 euros. Memory variants are available with 64 GB or 256 GB in addition to a total of five color variants (silver, gray, rose gold, green and blue).
