Apple iPhone 13 To Ditch USB-C Port

The rumours about the new Apple iPhone 13 are growing and analysts and leakers seem to agree on the features. We are currently talking about 120 Hz displays, a smaller notch, the absence of USB-C and improved cameras.

In a new research note via MacRumors, the often well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo goes into the previous iPhone 13 speculations and shares his forecasts with investors and the Apple community. Among other things, Kuo assumes that Apple will use an OLED display (LTPO) with a refresh rate of 120 Hz (ProMotion) for the first time this year. Rumours of this kind were spread in advance by well-known leakers such as Jon Prosser and Max Weinbach. The same applies to an important topic: USB-C.

Up to and including an iPhone that works completely without connections, Kuo does not expect a switch to the modern USB-C interface. The iPhone 13 expected in autumn 2021 should therefore continue to use the classic Lightning connector. ” Currently, the MagSafe ecosystem is not mature enough so that the iPhone will continue to use the Lightning connector in the foreseeable future, ” said the analyst. The striking notch above the display could, however, be more compact this year and possibly disappear entirely in 2022.

Kuo also expects that Apple will no longer offer its “optical image stabilization with sensor-shift” exclusively for the Pro Max model, but that the entire iPhone 13 family will benefit from the improved camera technology. Likewise, all installed ultra-wide-angle cameras could be equipped with an f / 1.8 aperture instead of the current f / 2.4 aperture. Due to the targeted space savings inside the iPhone 13 models, Apple should also equip the new iOS smartphones with higher capacity batteries, which could increase the weight of the devices slightly.

Finally, the analyst looks beyond the year 2021 and predicts the availability of a new Apple iPhone SE (3rd generation) in the first half of 2022 and a 7.5 to 8-inch foldable iPhone in 2023.
