Apple iPhone 16 price may drop by 20 percent in 6 months

On September 9, 2024, Apple presented the new iPhone generation. Based on the actual price trends of selected predecessor models, the price comparison platform Idealo has forecast the price development for the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max: In the first eleven months after market launch, savings of up to 26 percent could be possible.

iPhone-16: 20 percent cheaper after five months?

According to the forecast, the price of the standard Apple iPhone 16 model could have fallen by twelve percent after just one month. That would correspond to an absolute saving of around 109 euros. After five months, the iPhone 16 could already be available 20 percent cheaper – for around 757 instead of the originally estimated 949 euros. Those who wait even longer could expect a price drop of 24 percent from the eighth month. The price would then be at its provisional low of around 720 euros.

iPhone 16 Plus: Wait five months and save 19 percent?

The price development of the iPhone 16 Plus could follow a similar course: According to the price comparison platform’s forecast, a twelve percent reduction is conceivable two months after release. Buyers would then save around 135 euros. After five months, the savings would already be 19 percent: instead of the RRP of 1099 euros, the iPhone 16 Plus would then only cost around 889 euros. The provisional low price of 853 euros (-22 percent) could be reached in the ninth month.

iPhone 16 Pro: 14 percent cheaper after five months?

As the analysis shows, the price decline of the more expensive Pro models has progressed somewhat more slowly in the past. For the new iPhone 16 Pro, this could mean that not much will happen in the first few months after release. After five months, a saving of around 14 percent would be conceivable – in this case, consumers would pay around 164 euros less. The lowest price for now could be reached after eleven months: instead of the original 1199 euros, prospective buyers would then only have to budget 927 euros, i.e. around 23 percent less.

iPhone 16 Pro Max: Save 17 percent after five months?

With a starting price of 1,449 euros, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is the most expensive model. In absolute terms, consumers can save the most here if they are patient. The price experts at Idealo assume that after three months the price could be around 104 euros below the RRP. After five months, the savings could be around 251 euros (-17 percent). If you wait eleven months, you could even save 373 euros (-26 percent) when buying the iPhone 16 Pro Max – the price would then be 1,076 euros.
