Apple MacBook Pro New Details About M1 Chips And Notch

A few hours before the unveiling of new MacBook Pro models, the rumor mill is discussing the improved Apple M1 chips and a possible display notch. It is believed that the Californian manufacturer could break with its traditions this year.

At 6 p.m. GMT, the next Apple keynote will start with the “New Dimensions” event, at which the company will officially comment on the new MacBook Pro series of laptops for the first time. Shortly before the event, experts and leakers bring further clues to light that could at least partially cause surprises. First and foremost, the new ARM-based Apple M-Chip is being discussed, which has been dubbed the Apple M1X or M1Z in recent months.

Pro and Max chips as well as discussions about the display notch

As Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman is said to have found out from Mac developers, the names “M1 Pro” and “M1 Max” are currently appearing in various app logs in connection with the recently leaked display resolutions that are close to the MacBooks the 4K format should bring. While the next generation of the Apple Silicon will be awarded up to ten processor cores, the Pro and Max variants could differ in the number of graphics cores. We are talking about 16 and 32 GPU cores here.

While the names of new Apple chips are likely to be of little interest to end-users, a topic that is annoying for many is boiling up again – the notch. Known since the iPhone X and the introduction of Face ID facial recognition, the notch at the top of the screen could also play a role in the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. Masked by background images and a good black level of the mini-LED displays, however, we are only talking about a 1080p camera and sensors without Face ID.

The name of the new Apple M-Chips and whether the notch, which is often criticized in the iPhone, will find its way into new MacBooks should be clarified this evening.
