Apple releases important bug fix update for iPhones
Apple starts the new year with important bug fixes for iOS and iPadOS. The update to version 18.2.1 is available for download. iPhone and iPad users shouldn’t wait long – here you can find out how to get the update and what it brings.
Small updates with a big impact
Almost a month after the big update to iOS 18.2, iOS 18.2.1 is now available – the launch was actually expected in December. The new update mainly focuses on bug fixes. Apple expressly recommends the installation for all users, but without revealing many details about the problems solved.
The update is available for all iPhones starting with the iPhone XS, which was released in 2018. How Apple Insider reports the update has the build number 22C161 and is only just under 330 MB in size on an iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 18.2. Interestingly, this time there are no parallel updates for other Apple devices such as Mac, Apple Watch or HomePod – so the fixes are specific to iOS and iPadOS.
A look into the future
While Apple is fixing errors with iOS 18.2.1, preparations for future updates are already underway in the background. iOS 18.3 has been in beta testing since mid-December and could perhaps be released as early as late January or early February. One innovation is the support of vacuum robots in the Apple Home app.
Things will probably only get really exciting with iOS 18.4, which is expected to arrive in April. Apple is planning major changes here, especially for Siri. The voice assistant should be able to control apps more precisely and recognize screen content better. It is also expected that “Apple Intelligence” will be available in additional languages with this update.
This is how you get the update
The update can be downloaded and installed via Settings -> General -> Software update. Anyone who has allowed automatic updates should already have received the latest version.
