Apple Releases New Beta For iOS 14.4

Apple has released a new beta for iOS 14.4 . This is already the release candidate, so that the release to all users can be expected soon. According to Apple, the update in the beta channel brings some improvements and bug fixes.

iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 start with a few interesting innovations. Below that is the option to set a device type for Bluetooth audio devices. This is beneficial for the audio level measurement, which is supposed to protect the hearing by downregulating if the level is too high. What is new is that the choice of device type means that this measurement only comes into play when using headphones. In addition, the update should improve HDR photos. Apple has published in the release notes which innovations are hidden in the new beta version.

The update was only recently released. The new beta is a release candidate according to the information currently available, which means Apple is preparing to release it to all iPhone users. The update could start in early February.

How to take part in the beta program

The update is available as an over-the-air update. Those who have not yet registered for the public beta program can do so. Participation is free and requires a one-time registration for the program at https://beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from the correspondingly supported device. The Apple ID is required for this. Once you have registered, you will automatically receive new beta versions as with any other update.

However, one should keep in mind that, as with any beta version, unforeseen problems could arise. It is, therefore, better not to use your productive iPhone, but rather a second device for the tests. Since iOS 14 from the iPhone 6s is supported, one or the other may still have an old device in their drawer.
