Apple Releases New iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2

Apple provides iPhone and iPad owners with a new update to iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2. The update fixes various errors in the area of photos, AirTags, and backups and closes another zero-day security gap within the mobile operating systems.

The latest patch on iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2 does without the integration of new features and focuses solely on fixing a handful of bugs. Among other things, it happened that photos saved from messages were deleted as soon as users remove the corresponding conversation with the chat partner from iPhones or iPads. Furthermore, Apple is lending a hand on its “Where is?” Function, in which some errors have crept in with regard to AirTags and the iPhone leather wallet.

You can find a full changelog at the bottom of this article. If the update is not downloaded and installed automatically, you can initiate the download in the Settings -> General -> Software update of your iPhone or iPad. The size of the patch is less than 600MB on an iPhone 13 Pro.

New features in Apple iOS 15.0.2 / iPad OS 15.0.2

  • Photos backed up from Messages in your library might be deleted after you remove the related conversation or message.
  • The connection of the iPhone leather wallet with MagSafe to “Where is?” may fail.
  • AirTags may not appear in the “Where Is” tab for items.
  • Opening audio apps via CarPlay may fail or the connection may be disconnected during playback.
  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes with iPhone 13 or iPad mini (6th generation) models.

Fixed: Zero-day vulnerability in relation to the IOMobileFramBuffer

Impact: A program can possibly execute arbitrary code with kernel rights. Apple is aware of a report stating that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed through improved memory handling.
