Apple is rolling out a new update for older iPhones, iPods, and iPads that can no longer install iOS 13 or later. This is an “important security update and is recommended for all users,”.
The new iOS 12.5.4 update is for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, the iPod touch 6th generation, the iPad Air, the iPad mini 2, and the iPad mini 3 and come with the build number 16H50.
Releasing this new update, the company said:
This update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.
This new iOS 12.5.4 update “is designed to remove vulnerable code that can cause a memory corruption issue.” The company felt that with iOS 13, the previous operating system could be left unattended and to fill the gap, the company released this new update for older devices.
The new iOS 12.5.4 fixes two issues that affected the open-source web browser engine WebKit. The first bug maliciously crafted web content, leading to arbitrary code execution and could have allowed an alien user to run any command on the system s/he’s targeting.
To install the iOS 12.5.4, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
