Apple Shuts Down its 53 Stores in California Amid COVID-19 Resurgence

Apple recently announced that it is temporarily closing all of its 53 stores in California due to coronavirus outbreak and sixteen stores in the UK ensuing restrictions introduced by the government in London.

On Friday, the company said it was temporarily shutting some stores in California following a surge in coronavirus cases, sending the iPhone maker’s shares down in trading after the bell. That statement covered at least 12 stores.

As per the reports, a spokesperson in an email stated that due to the current coronavirus situations in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas. We take this step with an abundance of care as we closely observe the situation and we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as possible.

But, the customers would still be able to pick up prevailing orders for the next few days, the spokesman said. The statement did not mention when Apple expects the stores to reopen.

COVID-19 cases are increasing in the USA and the UK, with the US has had over 17.4 million infections and about 314,000 deaths.

On Saturday, Boris Johnson British Prime Minister enforced an effective lockdown on over 16 million people in England and upturned plans to ease curbs over Christmas. The UK’s other nations, whose response to the pandemic varies from that of England at times, also took action.

As per the British PM, London and southeast England would now be placed in a new Tier 4 level of lockdown, and people in those areas will be required to stay at home apart for necessary reasons such as work. Non-essential sales will close, as will indoor freedom and entertainment.
