Apple Starts Release Candidate For iOS 16.2 For All Users

Apple has confirmed the release of a release candidate for iOS 16.2. So the development seems to be complete and there are no known issues, so the release of the finished update is imminent.

The beta test for iOS 16.2 is now coming to an end. According to the current information, the pre-release version released today is the first release candidate for the function update that Apple has launched.

The update has recently become available as part of the Developer Test program and should be making its way to the Public Test program soon. The final release and thus the start for all users could take place in the coming days, in all probability before the Christmas holidays.

However, this would require all known errors to be corrected and no new ones to appear. Even if another round of beta testing is necessary, the update can still be released this year.

So far, little is known about the individual changes in the new build. Among other things, iOS 16.2 gets Apple’s new whiteboard collaboration app Freeform, support for Apple’s new HomeKit architecture, more customization options for the always-on display, and much more.

How to join the beta program

The new update is now available as an update. Registered users simply obtain the new version over the air, i.e. as an online update. Anyone who has not yet registered for the beta program can do so at any time and join the beta phase. Participation is free and requires a one-time enrollment in the program at beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from a Supported Device. Apple ID is required for this.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll get new beta versions automatically, just like any other update. However, one should keep in mind that, as with any beta version, unforeseen problems could arise. Apple, therefore, reminds us that it is better not to have a productive iPhone, but should use a second device for the tests.
