Apple recently confirmed a problem with all Intel Macs with a T2 security chip and the new macOS Monterey operating system. Users complained of frequent crashes, now there is an update – but not for those already affected.
The anger about the new macOS Monterey is increasing with some Apple users. After the long beta test phase, there were still a lot of bugs among end-users (we reported). Among other things, experts hold the fact that Apple has to optimize the operating system for Intel processors and for its own M1 chips. Now the group has released an update that addresses a bug for Intel Macs with a T2 security chip.
Users reported that they could no longer start their computers after trying to update to the new macOS Monterey. Apple has now provided an update – but not for users who are already affected, but for T2 chip owners who are willing to update. Apple now provides a corrected version that bypasses the crash problem and the boot error. So this new solution is only intended to avoid problems in the future.
In a statement on the problem, Apple stated the following via Rene Ritchie / Twitter:
“We have identified and resolved an issue with the firmware of the Apple T2 security chip that prevented a very small number of users from booting their Mac after updating their MacOS. The updated firmware is now in the existing macOS updates All users affected by this issue can contact Apple Support. To prevent other users from experiencing this issue, Apple has released an updated version of the BridgeOS firmware that will work on the T2 -Security chip is running. Users who are already affected by the problem are instructed to contact Apple Support.“
This means that the newly released firmware for the T2 chip is not intended to solve the problem for users who are already affected. Rather, it is intended to prevent the problem from occurring with other users. According to Apple, the new T2 security chip firmware is now included in existing macOS updates. However, we had already reported on a solution for those affected.
