Apple to Introduce MacBook Air with Advanced LCD Display in 2027

Apple is reportedly planning to launch a MacBook Air with an upgraded LCD display in 2027, according to a new report from The Elec. The refreshed display will feature Oxide TFT technology, replacing the current amorphous silicon (a-Si) panels.

This new display technology is expected to bring a noticeable improvement over existing MacBook Air screens. Oxide TFT LCD panels are known for their superior power efficiency and performance, delivering sharper visuals, smoother scrolling, and improved battery life. Users can also expect faster pixel response times and consistent brightness across the screen. These enhancements should reduce motion blur for a better video and gaming experience while eliminating the “clouding” effect sometimes seen in current LCD displays.

Manufacturers Samsung Display and BOE are already ramping up production capabilities for these advanced panels. Samsung is equipping its A6 production line with new deposition machines, while BOE is constructing its B16 line to handle similar production needs. Both companies are preparing to produce millions of units annually, though exact figures have not yet been disclosed.

Interestingly, this LCD upgrade comes as Apple has reportedly pushed back its plans for an OLED MacBook Air from 2027 to at least 2029. However, development of the OLED MacBook Pro remains on track. That model is expected to launch in 2026, featuring a thinner design and an annual production target of 3 to 5 million units.

This move signals Apple’s continued efforts to balance innovation in display technology with practical production timelines, ensuring users get the best possible experience from their devices. Stay tuned for more updates as these developments unfold!
