Apple To Launch First Macbook 12-inch With Apple Silicon This Year

It’s a safe bet that the first Mac to benefit from the Apple Silicon will be the MacBook 12 “. This format was downgraded by Apple in 2019, it was the first Mac with Intel without an active heat dissipation system and whose total weight was only one kilogram.

Remember the 12 inch MacBook? It was downgraded by Apple when the next-generation MacBook Air was announced in July 2019.

The 12-inch MacBook was the forerunner of the next-generation MacBooks: it was the first Mac equipped with a butterfly-mechanism keyboard (which caused a lot of problems), it also had a single USB-C connector (and headphones), it was light and compact and above all one of the first machines to integrate an Intel Core m. This is a variant of the Core i with very low consumption, the MacBook Retina was thus devoid of an active heat dissipation system. This last point was also its main weak point, in fact, the performances collapsed as soon as it got too hot.

This 12-inch MacBook would be the first to benefit from the Apple Silicon platform, it is a rumor already known, but of which we now have some additional details.

Called “Tonga”, the first Mac-based on Apple’s ARM would use an Apple A14X processor, manufactured by TSMC, it would thus benefit from autonomy of 15 to 20 hours, according to the Chinese media The China Times which quotes sources related to Apple’s supply from  Mac Rumors

According to Apple’s supply chain, Apple is expected to launch a Macbook with a 12-inch Retina display at the end of this year, using its A14X processor, it supports a USB Type-C interface and it weighs less. 1 kilogram (…) The Macbook battery lasts 15 to 20 hours. The A14X processor will also be used in the new generation iPad Pro tablet.

We also learn that a new variant of the iPad Pro would also be in the boxes: it would also benefit from the Apple A14X chip. As a reminder, the iPad Pro has been renewed this year.

The First Mac ARM In 2020

During WWDC, Apple announced that the first Mac ARM will be released in 2020, without specifying which model would be the first to benefit from the new Apple Silicon platform, knowing that the iMac was recently updated with an Intel chip. However, earlier it was reported that Apple plans to launch the first ARM Macs in 2021 but the things seem to have streamlined in this category.
