Apple To Launch iMac Pro 27-inch With M1 Pro/Max Processors And MacBook Pro Ports In Early 2022

Apple reportedly plans to launch an updated version of its larger iMac in the first half of 2022. This will then be equipped with the new, faster M1 processors that were recently announced for the MacBook Pro.

As MacRumors reports, citing the Twitter leaker Dylandkt, Apple plans to launch a successor to the still current iMac with a 27-inch display and an Intel platform in the first half of 2022. This model also says goodbye to Intel as a CPU supplier, because Apple will then switch to the in-house ARM SoCs in its larger desktop Mac, too.

Big iMac With Heavy Processors

The strategy is basically simple: As in the case of the new iMac with a 24-inch screen and Apple M1 SoC, the larger model is also to get a revised design and an ARM chip. However, Apple allegedly donates the new M1 Pro or M1 Max to the larger model, so that the device will differ more from the 24-inch model, especially in terms of performance.

The ten-core ARM SoCs have recently been offered for the first time in the new MacBook Pro models with 14- and 16-inch screens, although the more powerful Max version with the significantly more powerful graphics unit is reserved for the larger notebook. Apple, therefore, wants to market the larger new desktop PC in the all-in-one design as the iMac “Pro”, although it remains to be seen how exactly one wants to differentiate the various models from one another.

The source even gives some technical details about the new iMac “Pro” with the new M1 variants. The base model is said to be delivered with 16 gigabytes of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The display allegedly supports Apple ProMotion, i.e. increased refresh rates of up to 120 Hertz, and uses mini-LED backlighting. In addition, Apple is reportedly relying on a dark display bezel.

In addition, Apple is said to have also tested the integration of Face ID in a larger new iMac model, although it is unclear whether the feature should ultimately also be integrated. The iMac “Pro” is also getting an HDMI output for the connection of external displays for the first time. According to the source, the device also has an SD card reader and several USB Type-C ports. An Ethernet port will not be located on the housing but will be integrated into the power supply unit.

When it is launched in the first half of next year, the new iMac “Pro” with a 27-inch screen will be available at entry-level prices beyond the $2,000 mark. After all, the source argues that it is a “Pro” device with “Pro” equipment.
