Apple To Launch iPad Pro With Mini LED Display In 2021

The production of mini LED displays at Apple and its suppliers are progressing faster than expected. Analysts now assume that mass production will start at the end of this year and that the iPad Pro will be among the first devices with new panels next year.

As the colleagues from Macrumors report, the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is updating his forecast with regard to the first iPads and MacBooks to be equipped with new mini-LED displays. Due to the positive developments at the suppliers Epistar and Sanan Optoelectronics, he believes that around 300,000 to 400,000 screens can be manufactured with the OLED alternative this year. This inventory could be enough to equip a first batch of new iPad Pro models.

Will the new iPad Pro models show up with mini LEDs in spring?

Should Kuo’s prognoses come true, new 11- and 12.9-inch tablets of the iPad Pro family could be presented as early as spring 2021. Then, due to the new Apple A14 Bionic chip, which will be installed in the iPad Air from October and probably in the iPhone 12 (Pro Max), the Apple A12Z currently used in the iPad Pro will have completely pushed out of the limelight. The appropriate completion or optimization of an Apple A14X or A14Z processor would be conceivable. However, all assumptions remain unconfirmed until the official presentation.

Apart from the Apple iPads, the Mac portfolio should also benefit from mini-LED displays in the long term. In the past, technology was often associated with MacBooks and iMacs. Similar to OLED technology, thanks to mini LEDs, slimmer screens and thus lighter devices can be created. In addition, larger color spaces, a higher contrast, and, above all, better black values should be achieved. The well-known problem of OLEDs of content burned into the display should not affect the mini-LED displays too much, if at all.
