Apple will Work with TSMC to Build its Own Modems

After releasing its own chipset, Apple is now planning to introduce its own modem for its smart devices. The company is partnering with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. “for the production of its own 5G modems for future iPhones.” The company plans to build modems on a 4nm process. However, users may have to wait till 2023.

As of now, Qualcomm is the major modem producer for Apple’s smartphones. After its partnership with TSMC, Qualcomm could be left only with a 20% share.

According to reports, Qualcomm is a relatively more expensive option for iPhones. The company has also worked with Intel. But it seems TSMC is now a better option for the company.

TSMC is also the producer of all iPhone A-series processors. It’s also the major contributor to Apple’s M1 chips for Mac computers.

According to reports, 2022 iPhones will use TSMC’s 4nm process and for 2023, it might deploy the 3nm process.
